This courtroom is described as the "working courtroom" as it is the venue for the majority of hearings. It provides for up to five Justices, and therefore is used to hear most appeals and applications for leave to appeal. The layout and materials used are similar to Courtroom 1, but on a smaller scale.

Above the bench is the Australian Coat of Arms, sculptured from Australian red cedar by father-and-son team Peter and Laurence Otto. The Ottos, who were born in Holland and migrated to Australia in the 1950s, took five months to carve the Coat of Arms, finishing the work in March 1980.

In the foreground, in front of the bench, is the counsel lectern. Click on it for a closer look.

Moving to the right, one can see a television screen. Click on it for a closer look.

Immediately to the right of the television are portraits of four former Chief Justices of the High Court, Sir Adrian Knox, Sir Isaac Isaacs, Sir Frank Gavan Duffy and Sir John Latham. Click on each of these in turn for a closer look.

Panning further to the right you can see the entrance to the courtroom and then the seats of the public gallery at the back of the room, finishing with a view of the western wall of the courtroom with its sloping windows looking out onto the Court precincts.
