High Court Registry closure

The High Court Registry will be closed from 4:00pm AEDT on Wednesday, 24 December 2025 and will re-open at 9:00am on Friday, 2 January 2026.

Any party seeking to file a document due to be filed between 25 December 2025 and 1 January 2026 has an automatic extension of time under the High Court Rules 2004 (Rule 4.01.5) until 4:00pm on Friday, 2 January 2026 to file the document. Any documents lodged between 25 December 2025 and 1 January 2026 will be reviewed on 2 January 2026.

All inquiries for the High Court will be considered when the Registry re-opens on Friday, 2 January 2026. If a matter is of extreme urgency, you may telephone 1800 570 566, select Option 1 and leave a voicemail. In addition, provide details by email to: registry@hcourt.gov.au.

Practitioners appearing in a federal court must be entered on the Register of Practitioners kept in the High Court of Australia in accordance with the provisions of section 55B of the Judiciary Act 1903 (Cth).

Entry to the Register

To apply you must complete the application form and provide proof of admission in a State or Territory Supreme Court and a current entitlement to practice in a State or Territory Supreme Court. There is no fee for entry to the Register, only if a certificate is required. Further information is available on the application form.

Change in name or capacity

To update your entry on the Register please make the request by email to practitioners@hcourt.gov.au with the supporting documents. You should also include your current contact details.

Certificates and searching the Register

Practitioners may request a Certificate of Good Conduct or Certificate of Admission at any time.  The fee is $140.00. Information on how to pay for a certificate is below. The request should be made by email to practitioners@hcourt.gov.au, providing the full name and current contact details.

Practitioners may check their own entry on the Registry without charge by emailing Practitioners@hcourt.gov.au. For formal confirmation a search fee of $33.00 for up to 10 names applies. Information on how to pay the search fee is below.
