Bea Maddock

Bea Maddock (1934-2016) is a major Australian artist who has spent most of her career in Tasmania. She studied at the Hobart Technical College and in London at the Slade School of Fine Art. She taught printmaking through the 1970s at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, and returned to Hobart after the Ash Wednesday bushfires. She was head of the Tasmanian School of Art, Launceston for a brief period. In 2011 the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG), Launceston, published Bea Maddock Catalogue Raisonné, volume 1, 1951–83. She held more than 40 solo exhibitions during the period 1964–2006, and a major exhibition of her work 'Being and nothingness' toured in 1992–93. Her work has been included in about 70 group exhibitions in Australia and overseas during the period 1964–2006.
